Napoleone Cera remembers Antonio Squarcella: "A loss that leaves us shocked. Now greater safety for 118 operators."

" I express my deepest sorrow and shock at the news coming from San Giovanni Rotondo. Words fail to express my sadness at the sudden passing of former mayor Antonio Squarcella ," said regional councilor Napoleone Cera after learning of the serious road accident involving an ambulance transporting a patient to the Casa Sollievo della Sofferenza hospital, for reasons yet to be determined.

The 118 vehicle It collided with the car driven by Squarcella, his wife, and daughter in the Le Matine area. The vehicles caught fire immediately after the impact. The toll is tragic: one dead and five injured .

“Our thoughts go out to all those involved and their families at this difficult time,” added Cera.

A worthy person has passed away, a commendable administrator , a man who left a significant mark on his community. I remember Antonio not only as a committed and passionate former mayor but also as a man of great humanity, always available and attentive to the needs of citizens. His dedication to public service and his commitment to the common good will remain an example for all of us . His sudden passing leaves us shocked, but we want to remember him with affection and gratitude for all he did for our community. Our sincere condolences to his family and to all who knew and respected him.

In light of this human tragedy, Cera highlights, once again, how yet another accident confirms the risks 118 emergency workers face in their daily rescue work.

"Unfortunately, just a few days ago, another ambulance was involved in a traffic accident in Orta Nova, an incident that highlights the dangers of providing a vital service to our community. I want to firmly reiterate that these professionals deserve the utmost respect and must be guaranteed greater protection and safety measures . It is our duty, as institutions, to ensure that those who dedicate themselves with dedication and courage to emergency services are able to carry out their work safely, recognizing the inestimable value of their daily commitment. We must intervene promptly to strengthen protection and prevention measures so that incidents like those in Orta Nova and San Giovanni do not happen again and 118 emergency responders can operate with greater peace of mind and safety," Cera expressed his hope.
